Bone tumor case

A male patient in his early 50 years old came to our hospital. He complained for pain and swelling on his left knee area. Several examinations were done and it was diagnosed as a malignant tumor in the patella(bone on the knee).

Discussion of the treatment were done, in which amputation is being the best treatment that we can give to this patient. This is to prevent those tumor cells to spread all over the body or some organs of the body.

Yesterday the amputation was done successfully. And today the patient is still in his recovery process.

It was a hard decission but this surgery should be done to improve the quality of life of this patient.

Here are some of the pictures of his leg.

I am a fifth year medical student in one of public university in China. This is my last year before i get the 'doctor' thing in front of my name. LOL.

As we know, since this is my last year, this is also my internship year. Now i am in an orthopedics department, in which we will study all about the bones. Such like fractures, tumors, infections, and some other things that could involved the bones.

This is my third week in this department. I thought i will never love the orthopedics, but as the time goes on.. I started to love this. But i couldn't state that this is my special interest on medical field, cause i haven't go to the other department. Haha..

So, let's see what's gonna happen during my internship year. I wish it will be fun and i wish that i can learn more about medical. :)

A little sad story

A patient 64 years old male, came to the hospital for the examination on his foot on the last saturday. A big mass of severe tumor was found on his big toe which has been involved the bones around his foot. He need an amputation as the best treatment so that this tumor cells won't spread to his other parts of body.

He refused to do the amputation because of his financial problem. He doesn't have any money to undergo this surgery. In other hand, his child doesn't put a damn about his father. His child never came to visit his father since the day he was admitted to the hospital even until the day of this poor old man discharged from the hospital, which is today.

I could see the sadness on his face, but i can do nothing about it. I went to ask a pro "what will happened to this patient?"; and He answer me that this patient will got worse even more. Those tumor cell might spread to the other organs which may caused multiple complications. And in this state, this patient life is definitely threatened.

I only can pray for him, and wish that he will got the best thing that he should have.

EGOIS

Lukas 6:31

“Saya mempunyai hobi bermain catur.

Yeay..
As usual, traditional chinese medicine always become a very interesting class.
B'coz of its unique methods to treat any disease in patients. Haha..

And today we learned about how to do the chinese cupping method and how to do the needling process for acupuncture.
In class our teacher asked we to do the needling method to our own hand. And most of us didn't wanna do it. It's a lil bit scary, coz we'd never done it before.
But for me, i really wanna know how to do it, so i asked my teacher to do the needling to my hand. After he did it, i removed the needle and tried to needle myself. Hehe..

Here is the video and some pics we took in our practical class.. enjoy.. :)
